Customer Journey Map
A customer journey map is a visual representation of the steps a customer goes through in their relationship with a product or service, from discovery to loyalty, across every touchpoint. At each step, it documents the customer's actions, emotions, and friction points.
It's useful for spotting the most critical friction or drop-off points and prioritizing effort where it matters most. On an online service's signup flow, for example, mapping the journey can reveal that the biggest drop-off happens not at payment, as the team assumed, but right at account creation, because of an overly long form.
A common mistake is building the map from internal assumptions about what the customer feels, without real data (analytics, support feedback, interviews) to back it up. A customer journey map based on guesswork gives a false sense of rigor while it just reproduces the team's internal view.
