Integration of an electronic signature API
Signed in the journey, evidence in the file
We integrate Yousign, Docusign or Universign into the quote, the HR contract or the purchase. The eIDAS level of proof and the business write-back are settled before the first link.
- Signature connectors in production
- eIDAS level scoped
- evidence archived
What is an electronic signature API and when should you have it integrated?
An electronic signature API lets your application send a document, follow the signer's journey and retrieve the signed file with its evidence. “Send a link by email” modules cover the simple case. You have the integration built when the signature must open a right in the product, when refusal or expiry must relaunch the file, or when the signature level (simple, advanced, qualified) and the signer's identity are part of the journey, not an attachment on the side.
What gets lost between the quote and the evidence
The vendor signs. Until the business file is updated, follow-up and signer identity stay a side job.
Sales does not know if it is signed
Status (sent, viewed, signed, refused, expired) comes back into the file. No more hunting in a vendor mailbox.
The account does not open after signature
The signed event triggers account, order or access creation. The delay between the signature and the service disappears.
We cannot find the evidence six months later
The signed file and evidence elements are stored with the file, not only at the vendor. The audit has a document, not a support ticket.
The signature level was not the right one
Simple, advanced, qualified: the level is settled at scoping according to the document. Changing it later costs a journey rewrite.
What each signature API actually involves

Docusign
Global referenceThe best-known platform for international signers. No invented routes here: the integration is judged on envelopes, status webhooks and evidence storage. Scoping fixes the account, templates and signature level, not a catalogue of endpoints.
- Journey in the product
- Status by webhook
- Evidence kept with the file

Universign
Identity & signatureUseful when signature and identity meet. No detailed sheet: scoping fixes whether you need a scribble, stronger identity, or both. Inventing a KYC journey here would help no one; KYC in this category is treated as needed, not as a brand catalogue.
- Signature and identity at scoping
- Level suited to the document
- No improvised KYC

Yousign
French optionThe French option, often the right choice when your signers and finance team want a local eIDAS vendor. The API is used to send, track and retrieve, not to open a Yousign tab beside the CRM. Signature level and templates are scoped before the quote.
- French vendor
- Templates in the journey
- Status through to the business file
Four journeys where signing is no longer a tab
Contract born from the CRM or ERP
The won deal or approved document starts the procedure. The “signed” status writes back to the case.
HR onboarding pack
The employee file sends the pack. Evidence returns to the HRIS, not to a lawyer's inbox.
Purchase and amendment
The PO and the amendment share the same connector. Multiple signers are a designed case, not an exception.
Evidence pushed to the DMS
Signed document and evidence file in your space. The vendor is not your archive.
Legal, sales, HR, ops: the level is decided together
We do not replace a lawyer. We wire the chosen eIDAS level and the write-back into the file.
Legal finds the evidence
Timestamp, evidence file, retention. The vendor's magic link is not a file.
Sales no longer waits on a side portal
The quote is signed in the journey. The CRM sees the state, not a rep chasing “did you get the email?”.
HR closes the onboarding pack
Signed means the file is complete. Not a paper checklist in parallel.
Ops see the invitation expire
A lapsed procedure surfaces. We accept it as a business case, not as an API error.
What we have shipped, and why it transfers here
The method a signature API forces
eIDAS level
Level, signer identification, number of parties.
Deliverable: level and identity journeyEvidence and timestamp
Signed file, evidence, timestamp, storage off the vendor.
Deliverable: evidence contractBusiness write-back
Signed event → business action, including decline and expiry.
Deliverable: write-back mapRetention
Retention period, DMS target, archive owner.
Deliverable: archive policyWhat nobody tells you before you sign
The signature level is decided at scoping
Simple, advanced, qualified: this is not a parameter to change later without redoing the journey and sometimes the contract.
A missed webhook leaves an orphan file
If you do not handle “signed” and “expired”, the product and the vendor diverge. Evidence is not a confirmation email.
Evidence must not live only at the vendor
A provider change or a dispute six months later requires a copy in your file, with scoped retention.
KYC is not one more connector “just in case”
Identity and signature are scoped on the document concerned. Stacking KYC vendors with no volume and no real journey adds nothing.
What we measure on a signature project
Electronic signature API integration: your questions
First freeze the document, the eIDAS level and what “signed” triggers in the business: opening rights, an ERP document, an HR file. Then build a connector that sends the procedure, verifies webhooks and stores evidence with the file, not only a status. Then accept decline, expiry and reminder. Getting a signing link is the start; the risk is letting the file and the vendor diverge. This is not a guide to initialling a PDF in Word.
Sending a quote with status return costs far less than an identified, multi-signer journey with rights opened on signature. The eIDAS level and evidence retention weigh as much as the vendor. We scope the perimeter up front and give a firm estimate.
Yousign is often the right choice for French signers and local support. Docusign is when your counterparties are already in that ecosystem. Universign comes in when identity weighs as much as the scribble. We integrate all three; we do not make you change vendor to simplify our work.
It depends on the document, the risk and your counsel. We do not replace a lawyer. We make sure the chosen level is actually the one in the journey, and that evidence can be found. Settling on “simple because it is easier to wire” is a bad reason.
Yes, and it is often the right complement: the connector retrieves the document and evidence elements, then pushes them to your file store. The vendor is not your archive. Retention is scoped with finance, not in a forgotten bucket.
Which eIDAS level for which document?
30 minutes with you and, if needed, legal: documents, signer identification, where the evidence lives.
