Digital signage SaaS for waiting rooms

AtmoScreen

Born from a client's need to escape an overpriced, rigid digital signage subscription, AtmoScreen turns any TV into a customizable screen. Fragments Studio designed and built the solution end to end: a customization back office, a real-time TV player, backend and Stripe subscriptions.

The starting point: replacing a solution that had become too expensive and too rigid

The project started from a concrete need at one of our clients: break free from a costly digital signage subscription that was barely customizable and visually outdated. There was no way to apply their brand identity or integrate their own content. The goal was not to replicate the limits of the existing tool, but to start from a foundation they controlled, flexible, up to date, and fully aligned with their brand.

The challenge: making TV broadcasting as simple as a subscription

AtmoScreen's bet: let a practice manager, an event organizer welcoming the public, or a travel/real-estate agency, with no technical skills, pair a TV and build their playlist in a few minutes. That imposes a double requirement: a crystal-clear back office for the manager, and a very robust TV player able to run continuously, update in real time and withstand network outages, including on Android TV WebViews.

A complete product approach: back office, player, real-time and billing

Building on this, we acted as AtmoScreen's product and technical team across the entire scope: a customization back office, a real-time TV player, an extensible slide architecture and a Stripe subscription engine.

1. Back office: customize and manage your screens

A management space where each client pairs its TVs via a 4-character code, builds its playlist by drag and drop, sets the duration of each slide and applies its brand colors. A single dashboard drives multiple screens, from the web, Windows or Mac.

2. TV player: real-time broadcasting and resilience

The player displays the playlist continuously and receives updates instantly via Server-Sent Events (SSE). If the connection drops, it keeps the last known content; on TVs where SSE is unreliable, a manual refresh from the remote takes over. A dedicated Android TV app rounds out Chromecast and browser compatibility.

3. Extensible slide architecture & subscriptions

Every slide type (weather, cinema, news, quiz, health tips, QR code, team) follows the same provider pattern, with shared caching of calls to external APIs (WeatherAPI, TMDB). On the business side, the Starter, Premium and custom plans are managed via Stripe and Better Auth, with a billing portal and webhook synchronization.

Tech stack: real-time, extensible and ready to scale

A React 19 back office (Vite, TanStack Query, Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui) for management, a NestJS backend with Prisma and PostgreSQL, authentication and subscriptions via Better Auth and Stripe, real-time over SSE and an Android TV app. All deployed on AWS.

Results: a controlled, customizable alternative ready to broadcast

  • Replaced a costly, rigid subscription with a controlled solution, a modern interface and full brand customization.
  • Real-time broadcasting: every change propagates instantly to all relevant screens, with offline fallback.
  • Custom content integrated freely and a monetizable product: Starter, Premium and custom plans managed end to end via Stripe.

An end-to-end product collaboration

From design to production, we took charge of the product as a whole: architecture, back office, player, backend, third-party API integrations, billing and deployment.

Every decision was made with a clear goal: keep the manager experience as simple as possible while building a solid, extensible technical foundation, ready to welcome new content types and new screens.

The challenge was twofold: help our client replace a solution they were no longer satisfied with, and reach new audiences by meeting a shared demand for customization and simplicity. A challenge met on both fronts.
