SaaS (Software as a Service)
SaaS (Software as a Service) means software hosted by the vendor and made available to customers over the internet, usually as a subscription. Users connect from a browser or app; updates, security, and infrastructure are handled by the provider.
It's the dominant model for modern B2B products: CRM, HR tools, billing, collaboration. For a company building its own product, « going SaaS » implies multi-tenancy (many customers on one platform), recurring billing, self-serve onboarding, and an architecture that can scale. It's the core of many projects we scope and build for scale-ups.
Confusing « web app » with « SaaS product » leads to underestimating the product work: subscriptions, customer data isolation, usage metrics, support, and a reversibility plan. Another trap is customizing the product case-by-case for every large client until you lose the advantage of a single platform. SaaS holds if the same product core serves most customers, with configuration rather than endless bespoke work.
