Headless CMS
A headless CMS (Contentful, Strapi, Sanity, and others) separates content management from presentation. Editors work in a back office; developers consume content via API to render it in a Next.js site, a mobile app, or a storefront. The CMS no longer imposes the theme or final HTML.
It's the standard model as soon as a marketing team wants to publish independently while the front end is a fast React/Next site, a headless commerce stack, or multiple channels in parallel. Content becomes a reusable resource, not locked inside a coupled WordPress theme.
Headless adds complexity: preview, localization, permissions, cache invalidation. For a simple blog run by one person, a classic CMS may be enough. Another pitfall: letting the content model explode without governance, which makes every new page slower to produce than before.
