Feature
A feature is a single, identifiable capability of a software product from the user's point of view: a search filter, a PDF export, an email notification. It's the basic unit used to plan, prioritize, and ship a product incrementally.
On an agile project, the product backlog is essentially a prioritized list of features, each estimated and assigned to a sprint. For a billing SaaS, for instance, "export invoices as PDF" and "send an automatic payment reminder" are two separate features, built and tested independently even though they belong to the same billing module. This granularity makes it easy to decide what to ship first based on value delivered versus effort required.
A common mistake is defining features that are too large, taking several weeks to build and hiding important sub-decisions until the last moment. Good practice is to break a broad feature down into pieces that can be shipped and tested within a few days, which reduces risk and surfaces user feedback earlier. On the other hand, splitting things into fragments that are too small can dilute the overall vision and make prioritization harder.
