CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Deployment)
CI/CD automates the path between writing a line of code and putting it into production. Continuous integration automatically tests and validates every proposed change, while continuous deployment ships it live with no manual step once it's validated.
In practice, a CI/CD pipeline triggers on every push: it compiles the code, runs automated tests, checks quality (linting, security), then deploys to a staging environment or straight to production if everything passes. On a project with several developers, this is what lets the team merge code multiple times a day without worrying that one change will silently break another part of the application. Without CI/CD, every release becomes a manual, stressful event prone to human error.
A common mistake is setting up a CI pipeline but never going all the way to continuous deployment, leaving releases manual and losing much of the benefit. Another frequent issue is neglecting test coverage: a pipeline that automatically deploys poorly tested code just propagates bugs faster than before. CI/CD is only as valuable as the tests it actually runs.
