AI Agent
An AI agent is a program that receives a goal in natural language, reasons through the steps needed to reach it, then decides and carries out the corresponding actions in existing tools (sending an email, updating a CRM, triggering a payment). It acts without human approval at each step, unlike a chatbot that only answers questions.
The value shows up as soon as a repetitive task spans several systems: qualifying a lead in the CRM, checking stock, generating a quote and sending it, for instance. A well-scoped agent chains these steps without human intervention, freeing up time from low-value work. It's the most common format in the business automation projects we run, often replacing a chain of scripts or manual rules.
A common mistake is giving the agent too broad a scope of action too quickly, without guardrails. In production, you need to define precisely what the agent can do on its own and what requires human sign-off (a payment above a certain amount, for example), otherwise a single reasoning error propagates straight into real systems.
